Calculators manufactured by Hewlett Packard were the first widespread commercial use of L.E.D. technology in the late sixties. Fast forward to the early twenty teens and now we have the beginnings of LED lights lighting up commercial storefronts. Some blink, change color and some like this storefront just shine bright white. This particular example is this writers favorite. It really lights up this otherwise dark and dreary segment of Morse.

This strip is slowly back coming to life. A dollar store at Ashland and Morse to the east and west of the intersection popped up in the past six months. Rogers Park's commercial hub is bit by bit rebounding after a very very low point in the early mid nineties.

This obnoxious, hilarious storefront is the most exciting thing to happen to West Ridge in the past year. Looks like something out of a video game. LED technology is really coming into its own right now. If you haven't checked out the latest iPhone chargers you will be surprised. Now your phone looks like its literally charging right before your eyes!

The name of this blinding emporium? L.E.D. Sign Depot @ 6302 N Western Avenue. The next generation's neon. It just goes to show you that the old expression really is true. The more things change the more they stay the same.

There was a dark time in the sign industry spanning the neon to L.E.D. chasm. Light boxes. Light boxes are those extremely boring and functional displays that are ever present in today's world. Like Starbucks, or any store in a strip mall in the past twenty years.

We really needed something new to bring excitement back to the night. This is more like the future Blade Runner envisioned over thirty years ago.

This bombastic storefront resembles a mini Las Vegas or a gigantic gambling machine. Children nowadays may remember this epoch like oldsters of today remember the arcades of the eighties or the ancients remember neon from the twenties and thirties.
