Gruppo Di Amici Closing

Gruppo Di Amici officially announcing with this banner that June 29th will be their last day. This shouldn't come as a huge surprise given how slow business has been for them. In the chaos from the news vans reporting live yesterday (on Jarvis) this writer didn't notice this sign. Reviewing the pictures from yesterday this sign was up. They had decent Italian food, great service and ambiance but it didn't draw huge crowds. In the past year the restaurant had cut back on their hours (like Charmers did). Their pizza was the original kind from Italy which has less cheese and tomato.

"The original kind from Italy". Mama Mia such a boy. There are many "styles" depending on where you are from in Italy. Gruppo's was Romano; wood fired brick oven, thin cracker crust, only certain toppings. No pineapple, ham or chicken satay. Napolitano, Tuscano, Siciliano are all different in Italy. Gruppo did a good Romano pizza. The oven, she is beautiful.

Damn. It looked like it was coming for a long time, but they made the best thin crust in town, far as I'm concerned. Had good reviews, too.

I don't quite get whu people say this is a great location for a restaurant. It's a brave little outpost, but off the track for most folks. I have to thing location had a pretty large part in Gruppo's demise.
